Pathways to Work Team

Joanne Gill is a Health at Work Coach for South Yorkshire Housing Association, working within the Pathways to Work Team, on behalf of Barnsley Council.

The service offers one-to-one tailored support to economically inactive people looking to find and stay in employment.

Our services are entirely free and available for economically inactive:

  • Young people aged 16-24
  • People aged 16+ with a health condition
  • People aged 16+ with caring responsibilities

Many clients who visit GP practices will have mental/physical conditions, and some might be interested in returning to work or finding flexible roles that accommodate their health conditions. provide one-on-one support to help these individuals build confidence, prepare for work, and connect with local job opportunities, all at no cost.

Pathways to Work offer a wide range of support options, including CV building, confidence boosting, interview preparation, and developing essential skills. They adopt a person-centred approach in everything we do, aiming to empower their clients, enhance their self-awareness, and unlock their potential.

The team specialises in working with individuals who may face unique challenges when re-entering employment or training. They actively support their health and wellbeing, addressing any barriers that arise, to ensure a smooth and sustainable transition into work or education.

As a relatively new team in the area, Pathways to Work are eager to promote their services throughout Barnsley and make a positive impact within the economically inactive community.
